At the same time, Defapp is designed with strong privacy principles in mind. There are no user profiles, no background tracking, and all technical data that could potentially be associated with you is stored in pseudonymized form.

We only process as much data as absolutely necessary — never as much as possible. And only if you want us to. That is one of the core principles behind Defapp’s development.
You do not need a user profile or even a phone number to use Defapp.

Defapp always takes situations seriously and reacts immediately. No countdowns, no confirmation dialogs, no wasted time in critical situations.

THREE STRESS-RESISTANT GESTURES

Shaking your phone or pressing and holding the screen activates Defense Mode. Depending on your settings, this can include:
* a tactical strobe light designed to disorient attackers, attract attention, and buy time to escape
* a specially developed loud alarm sound for maximum attention
* recording a 5-second evidence video
* automatically triggering Notification Mode

Double-tapping the screen activates Notification Mode — a silent alarm system that can include the following features depending on your settings:
* instant push notifications to your private network — optionally including your location
* instant push notifications to other Defapp users within a radius of approximately 300–400 meters — including your location
* creation of an SMS message — optionally including your location and an evidence video

You can also trigger Notification Mode using your smartwatch or a voice command.

STRONGER TOGETHER

We want to truly strengthen civic courage and mutual support. With Defapp’s Nearby feature, you can receive calls for help from other Defapp users in your immediate area.
For example, you can look out for guests at your event, your neighborhood, or simply other Defapp users nearby while traveling.

We believe potential helpers should never be burdened with costs. That’s why receiving alerts from nearby Defapp users is — and will remain — free.
We are especially careful about privacy with this feature as well. Instead of storing GPS coordinates, we only store IDs of so-called H3 grid cells representing the area you are currently located in.

You decide if, when, and how you want to be available to receive alerts.

Defapp is fully privately funded. In particular, sending push notifications causes ongoing operational costs. That is why we only ask for a small annual contribution for push notifications. At the same time, you support us and the continuous development of Defapp.
