I love this freaking App! I know what I want to say, but I don't always know the best way to say it. This program takes your text, goes through it sentence by sentence, and gives you several examples to choose from. You can take the recommendations and apply the one that best suits your needs, or you can choose the example closest to what you are trying to write, choose the pencil, and edit it immediately while it is still fresh in your mind. This program has taken my writing to a totally new level. I highly recommend you try this app!
I have several complaints. The app constantly expects you to remove all adverbs. Occasionally, I want to keep them. The app doesn’t correct the sentence structure if you choose to keep the adverb and only gives you the option to remove it. Upon occasion, the app will suggest a stronger or different word. If you choose the word and then re-check the grammer, it will often tell you to remove the word or will suggest that you choose a different word and suggest the original word you already had. The third deals with sentence grammer, if you change it, according to the app and then re-check, the change (which is suggested) will be called out for errors. Really? The final complaint is when the app makes a suggestion of choosing a grammar choice. Do this if… Sometimes it will say…otherwise do this… If I knew what is supposed to be there, I would have written it that way myself. I didn’t know the proper structure, so I bought the app, to tell me, not give me choices. Maybe, you could tell me more about the sentence options and what I am looking for to determine what type of sentence I have, so that I can choose the proper grammar for my sentence. Nearly there. I love Grammarly’s keyboard that is always checking as I type, but your grammar approach is better.
Great overall! I tried this app because the privacy policy is less invasive than Grammarly is. It does a good job, and I love that it explains why you should change something. It’s much better than the free version of Grammarly, and in my experience catches most of the same stuff as the paid version. Likewise, it’s 100x better than outlook/Microsoft Office’s grammar checking. There are a few things I’d like to see more of / suggestions, but I am super happy with the app so far and paid for the subscription. As a dyslexic who never learned grammar, this is an invaluable tool. The biggest suggestion/request would be to have a desktop app, a website, or a browser / outlook extension. I use this for work emails and would love to more easily be able to access it at work. I don’t mind paying the pro version, but it’s a bummer I can’t access it from my desktop like you can with some competing apps. Other things, I think it would be cool if there was an option to click on suggestions and maybe link to more information or just explain in more detail. For example, one sentence in this review it says ‘long subordinate clause’ but I don’t even know what that means LOL. It’d be awesome if I could get more details right from the app. Other suggestions would be for detecting tone and a tool to summarize things. It would also be cool to set preferences for formal or informal writings/words, simple to understand/low reading level, etc.
