ClayLab

This is one of my most used apps. Before, I would glaze my work and write down on sticky notes and take photos of it and my glazed piece. Then I discovered ClayLab. Here you can record the glazes, have a list of your glazes and how it was glazed and be able to search your stuff by the glaze! By the clay body! By technique! The app just keeps getting better. The new update with the archive feature is helpful. I want to record what I make even if I scrap it to be able to view my progress over time. I was able to meet the creators at NCECA 2026 and I’m very much looking forward to the new ideas and updates coming. I am hoping eventually there will be a cool feature like Spotify’s yearly recap deal but with pottery in the app - like “in 2026 you make 236 mugs and glazed 176 of them!” Etc.

I am relatively new to ceramics and was introduced to the craft by a few friends who are teachers and students of various experience levels! The ceramics community has welcomed me with open arms and in their open and kind nature, they have shared a range of tricks, tips, stories of success and disappointments and lessons learned! One of the greatest things shared in terms of keeping track of my progress has been ClayLab! The app is super intuitive and easy to use. I feel it did a wonderful job of guiding me step by step and keeping track of my ceramic process. What's even better is that with every update the app keeps getting better and better!! I feel that the developer has really listened to concerns or feedback on what users would like to see in the future or areas that can use improvements or clarity and addressed them in a professional and productive way by making beneficial updates to the app! I can honestly say that this developer must be a dedicated ceramicist (is that a word) that not only cares about the craft but cares for the ceramics community and gives that care back to us by creating a top notch app that helps us to track our progress no matter what stage of our experience! AAAAANNNDDDDD.... The developer just released the Pro version and WOWWWW! I really love it! I love how easy it is to transfer my data (although I hope there will be a option to transfer a CSV file in the future) but the Pro version is amazing and honestly helped me to step up my ceramics game!! Hahah! So the Pro version makes me feel like a Pro myself!! Thanks ClayLab!! Keep up the great work!!

Clay Lab is absolutely essential for keeping records of ceramic pieces!! LOVE it for keeping photos, notes, glazes, etc on each piece. I do lots of experimenting with glazes & usually prefer test pieces to test tiles & can easily keep track of which clay, glazes, UGs, firing schedules, etc. Improvements suggestions: Would like to be able to record more than one inside & outside glaze on each piece w/out having to type into notes. Would like to customize categories “about this piece” bc I would like to easily record: glaze firing schedules & item’s price..but don’t care to record size or weight or form.. Also additional “Current Stage” categories could include “Priced” or “For Sale” & “Sold” categories. It would also be great to be able to search app for a specific glaze & be able to see all works w that glaze. Lastly - would be good to be able to delete the glaze names which come already installed.. ..but really..This app is great!
