After using this app for a couple of weeks I can undoubtedly say that it’s done better for learning Hiragana and Katakana than anything else I’ve ever tried. When you download the app you’re immediately given the entire Hiragana alphabet to work with. If you want access to Katakana you must first pay $5 USD, but in my opinion it’s worth it. The only thing I’ve noticed is that for some of the letters, the app can get a little finicky. For example while I was writing the hiragana “そ(so)” I noticed that you need to be nearly perfect or else it will make you retry the letter, while with hiragana “ら(ra)” I wrote it completely wrong and it still let me pass. Other than that very small error, this app is wonderful and I definitely recommend it if you’re serious about learning!
This app is by far THE BEST tool to learning Kana for absolute beginners looking to learning Japanese - It incorporates a brilliant system of using a combination of fun little stories and writing repetition to help you memorize each of the Kana characters in small chunks. You can also test yourself along the way to see how much you retain with each session. I’ve tried using so many other apps to help me memorize the whole Kana writing system with no success, yet this app helped me learn it in less than a month… And that’s just because work keeps me busy. But for anyone with more time, I guarantee you could learn it in a shorter time. Of course, this is just a first step in one’s journey to learning Japanese, and there’s a lot more that goes into learning this beautiful language. But it’s a very important foundation to have and this app helps you get it under your belt in no time. To the creators of this app, I would love you to make one for Kanji, pitch accent, particles, and grammar. I would download it in a heartbeat and keep progressing. Thank you so so much!
I got this app at the recommendation of the school I’m going to be studying at in Japan and, let me tell you, it has been such a blessing. I’ve tried learning Japanese before on other apps (like duolingo) and I really struggled to understand. I always felt like I was just attempting to memorize but never actually deeply learning. This app teaches in such a different way that I not only found it fun but everything stuck so easy I was amazed with what I picked up. It gives you crazy stories and visual images to plant in your head and it says the sounds out loud, has you say them out loud as well, has you trace and draw the characters by hand. Every aspect of learning is there and that makes it work. I was so proud that I was able to actually read and sound out writing in Japanese. I was able to even write it myself. Please use this app, if you are questioning whether you should, do it. Give it a chance, you won’t regret it. And to this app and it’s creators, ありがとう! (*´꒳`*)
