Coastguard Tautiaki Moana

This app is fantastic and does more than most apps online that want huge amounts of cash for an annual fee. The only thing missing as far as I can see is the swell size it shows direction but the size doesn’t populate or maybe I’m reading it incorrectly.

Previous Coastguard app was many times better and more useful than this limited effort. We used to be able to get multiple nowcasting sites on a single page and quickly select what we wanted. This current rendition is simply too poorly conceived to be worth anything, and despite being paid, has advertising built in also. We will not be using this much. A pity that the developer threw away all the good points about the old app, and gave us advertisements instead. This is a rock solid clunker. Please ditch it and give us back the far more useful old app. I am a happy Coastguard member and an admirer of the service, but this thing is awful. You can call this thing Trip Reporter if you want, but give us back the decent forecasting and nowcasting.

Clearly this new app is to facilitate TR’s and probably does it well. But my primary use of the old app was for Nowcasting, which of course does not work any more on the old app. So i bought the new one. What a disappointment. To get at the NC it requires a lot more “keystrokes” than the old app did. I can just imagine trying to do it in the cockpit in a 1.5 metre sea somewhere near Hauturu!. Not. Having to also log in is a extra pain in the proverbial. All that extra tapping when all you want is to know what sort of hammering Huey is going to dish out in the next couple of hours. Please can we just have a quick and easy process to get at multiple nowcasting results in quick succession, with one tap to move from one set of figures to the next.
