Since 2018, when I was preparing for my IELTS exam, I've been a listener of your podcast. Fast forward to today—I've immigrated to Canada, pursuing my master's degree, and working as a barista and cashier in a Drugmart. I want to express my heartfelt gratitude to all of you. I genuinely adore each of you and feel an incredible closeness to the team. Your podcast stands out as the finest English learning resource I've come across. It's not just about language; I've gained valuable life insights, learned how to connect with people better, and even apply those techniques in my native language. Please keep up the fantastic work and continue inspiring us. I also have a request: could you consider creating a podcast episode about engaging small talk topics for customer interactions? I started listening to this podcast 3 years ago. I wasn’t able to understand more than 40-50% of what they were saying on the episodes. Now, I understand more than 99%. It takes time to learn but you have to start at some point. It doesn’t happen automatically. You have to make the “conscious” decision to start listening it every day and you’ll see results. I’m originally from Venezuela (I speak Spanish) but I’m living now in Texas. 3 years ago I was working in a restaurant as a dishwasher. 7 hours a day. I decided that if I wanted to reach my goals, I had to learn English. I started listening to this podcast 7 hours a day 5 days a week. I also had another motivation. My son has a rare muscular disease. I didn’t want to keep using interpreters to be able to talk with my son’s doctors. Now, I have my own business so I’m able to support my family and do something that I love. I’m a Real Estate Photographer/Videographer. 99% of my day is in English ( Even on the phone, sounds terrifying isn’t it?). I make mistakes in English everyday but we believe in connection, no perfection 🤗. You can reach your goals too and this app is going to be crucial in your journey. Hi Lindsay and Michelle! My name is Rachel and I’ve been listening to your podcast for years now. I’m guilty of having been a ghost listener for so long, but I finally got the app on my phone and it’s great! Sorry it took too long for me to rate you guys!!! Your podcast certainly improved my English in a way so thank you so much for that!! I also want to congratulate Michelle on expecting her baby boy so soon!! I had my baby boy 4 months ago and became a SAHM. It’s been quite an adventure (not sarcastically!😂). I really hope you continue to record with Lindsay, but you will be sleep deprived for the first couple of months. Sorry but true.. 😂 I’ve been living in US for 6 years and I’m still struggling to have natural conversations and connect with people. One of the things I do that cut off the flow of connection is that I often block out what the other person is saying in order to think what I need to say next. I don’t do this intentionally, it just happens when I’m worried and nervous about continuing the conversation. It always puts me in a very awkward situation and the connection is thrown out the window. Then I get more nervous and self conscious.. it’s a vicious cycle. I sometimes just try to laugh away and start a new subject to talk about.. but I accidentally laughed when someone told me his cat passed away!! 🤭🤭 Could you guys please give me any tips on getting back to the conversation naturally before things get awkward? Is it okay to say “what?” In a soft tone of voice when I don’t understand somebody? Or is there a better natural way to casually ask someone to repeat what they said? “Excuse me” and “could you repeat that again” always sound to me a little bit too formal and awkward between family and friends. Am I wrong?? Please help me!! I really appreciate all of your hard work! Thanks a ton!! 😍😍
