The game is very good, but the rules are NOT correct. First, in “true” pool, when you scratch on the 8 ball, you lose. In this game the player wins if the 8 ball is sunk and then the cue ball also goes in a pocket. That is illegal. Second, no matter where or when you scratch the opponent can ONLY place the cue ball BEHIND the break line. It’s illegal to place the cue ball “anywhere” you want on the table. You’d be thrown out of any pool hall for playing like that. Third, in true pool rules, you cannot play off of other balls. If you hit another ball you lose your turn, unless hitting another ball happens after you sink the intended ball. The only exception is if you are purposely making a combination shot, but you are only allowed to use your own balls. You may not use your opponents balls for a combination shot. Fourth, you may not simply hit one of your balls and “hope” something goes in. If the intended ball does not go in a pocket but another of your balls does go in a pocket, that is considered a table scratch. Fifth, and this really makes me mad, if you sink the 8 ball on the break, this game considers that a reason to start over and allow the opponent to break. When playing by true rules, if you sink the 8 ball on the break you WIN! That’s one of the most difficult shots and the player is rewarded with a win. I know. I perfected that shot and used to win money for doing that...and it really makes the opponent angry. I like this game, but wherever the developer got the rules was not from a trusted source. I’ve been playing pool for more than 50 years and played pool sharks as well as hundreds of bars. The rules of this game (using level 2 of 3) are very annoying and those of the novice who doesn’t play by the rules.
The avitars block the corners of the table on certain shots and the computer does’nt use enough English in proper situations to give me a better challenge, otherwise,it’s the best pool game online ever although we will be paying to play this game should apple choose you to add to there game bundle library in the near future through subscription just like iTunes and appleTV... also please add the game of straight pool and the ability for game sound effects of the volume to not crash when I listen to my iTunes. I like the illusion of a jukebox as if I’m in a bar, not being relegated to department store or waiting room music your game provides...also add applause response effects after certain great shots and lastly, give us players maybe three or four options of table surface color...THANKS!!
I downloaded this app because I was looking to get my hands on some more pool but it is hard to access a physical pool table. It is great for just playing around, but not necessarily ideal but getting better at pool. I was a little disappointed that was no online mode to play against actual players. The CPU mode isn’t realistic at all because the computer can easily do any shots it wants and then purposely miss before it makes too many in a row. On the ‘easy’ CPU mode it will almost always make two shots in a row and then purposely miss the third one. A real player would more often make easy shots but less often make hard ones. The CPU makes easy shots and hard shots alike until it decides to give up. The way I prefer to play the game is in the offline 2-player mode where I will play against myself from both sides. That is where I have improved at the game the most. Some positives about the game include the fact that there are plenty of modes to choose from, including 8-ball, 9-ball, snooker, time trial, practice, and many others. There are many ways to play the game, even if by yourself. The art style is also very good and the atmosphere of the game has a very relaxing and friendly vibe, which is exactly what you want for this type of game. Despite it’s flaws, the game can be a fun way to improve at pool as ling as you are challenging yourself. Overall it is easily worth the $2 charge to go ad-free.
