I can’t believe I’m just discovering that this exists as an app. Of course I’ve run through a million Hans Wehrs in my life and I love having the book. But for being on the road or whatever, this is a lifesaver.
The app functions brilliantly so long as you know how to use HW as a book. That is to say you have to have been taught the roots and forms well enough to understand how to look words up and understand what the results are. But that’s a (good) feature of HW not a bug. The app faithfully reproduced the most important modern Arabic-English dictionary.

This app is just was I was looking for. Flipping through a PDF copy of Hans Wehr on my phone can be quite cumbersome. The search function makes finding the definition you are looking for very simple. The text is clearly scanned from the book, but the writing is very clear and easy to read. The search function actually allows you to find a definition with the phone faster than you could with a book. I definitely recommend this app for all Hans Wehr users.

I graduated from university 7 years ago and studied in Jordan 8 years ago. At that time we all had to travel with our bully green Hans Wehr dictionaries. I recently started studying Arabic again and couldnt find my old copy. Im so happy this is available on an app now so I dont have to worry about buying a new copy or finding my old one. Thank you!

Arabic Almanac is a digital version of the famous Hans Wehr dictionary. You can search through the dictionary by using the root letter of the word and the app will display the corresponding page from the Hans Wehr dictionary.
This app was developed to aid students of the Arabic Language in their noble pursuit. The app will remove the need of carrying around a bulky dictionary and replace it with the convenience of your smartphone. Now you have access to all the same information, but at the comfort of your fingertips.
The dictionary can be searched using an Arabic keyboard, or if you do not have an Arabic keyboard the dictionary can be searched using Roman (English) letters which have an Arabic equivalent.
