Greek and Hebrew are very economical languages. You can say more meaning in Greek and Hebrew with fewer words than you can in English or American style English. When the translators of the Bible tried to bring the ancient languages into English they took the admonishment not to add to or detract from what the Word of God was saying as to mean that they needed to give a one word for one word translation. But to do this you have to leave out some of the meaning of the ancient words. What the translators of the Amplified Bible tried to do was to include all the embedded meaning of the ancient words. This can result in a single ancient word being translated into two, three, or even four modern words to convey the entire meaning. This is, for the most part, a restating of what is in the forward of the Amplified Bible.If it does have a flaw, at least in my opinion, it is when it includes what the translators believed were implied meanings. It is my view that the translators were not necessarily wrong as much as they were limiting. There are times when I am reading it that I believe that it is bigger than the meaning they have given it. Bigger, more all encompassing, more universal, greater…There are reasons, scriptural reasons, that I have for this particular belief. The words and promises of the Lord are pure words, like silver tried an earth in furnace, purified seven times, for example. That is from Isaiah. And there are more but I won't go into that. For me, personally, it is my study Bible, and has been for over 40 years. KLT

This is a very handy app and greatly appreciated. Some theologians think this version is not to be received at all, but I think there is a translation for everyone that they can relate to. And this is what is important. Personally I like to use several different ones at a time just to cross check them. I used to think this version was a bit clumsy until I found myself returning to it again and again for study and meditation. I like the features of this app as the print size is nice and big. And then there is the black on white or white on black font and background options. Overall this is very enjoyable to use. It is a nice addition to my leather bound copy which is about 35 years old.
