Like many this app was promoted to me through a video online, as someone currently learning Chinese the foreigner spoke it in the video quite well so I said why not and gave it a go, first of all like somebody else mentioned it does use a low quality AI voice that got pronunciations wrong (my teacher said himself and he is from China) I wish there was an option as-well where I could speak to it and it then rates how well my pronunciation was, it doesn’t feel that helpful to just hear the inaccurate pronunciation and then second guess mine, Overall this app could do better in my opinion. I can see how the flashcard concept is good but there should be more features that helps with actual engagement of the language with the app.

I downloaded lori Flashcards after seeing an Instagram reel where a foreigner asked a Cambodian guy to guess if he could speak Khmer and the guy replied impressively good. At the end of the clip he sponsored this app, I got curious and decided to try it myself. As someone who is Cambodian that lives aboard and trying to reconnect with my own language, I ended up really disappointed. The first thing that caught me off guard was the AI generated voice that doesn’t sound natural or accurate, and some of the Khmer feels off. The translations are decent, but I was dissatisfied to see that there are not any Khmer letters, only the “Khmer sing/sync” style. For an app claiming to teach the language, missing the actual script and providing inaccurate audio makes it tough for anyone serious about learning Khmer properly. I am hoping the team can improve the authenticity, quality, and accuracy in future updates.

I’ve tried many apps but this is the first time I feel like I’m really learning !
