iHP48

Had an older HP 48 emulator on my iPhone 6, but when it finally became pretty much obsolescent couple years back and I upgraded to the iPhone 14, had to find a new HP 48 emulator for it. This one has proved to be the best of the ones I’ve tried, and I use it all the time. Very easy to view and operate, plus fairly dependable as well. It will crash occasionally during startup, but once you relaunch always seems to work fine — not particularly inconvenient, in any case. I did have to delete and reload it once, when trying out various different skins — completely froze up, and couldn’t get it to run at all anymore. So recommend finding one skin you like, and then just sticking with it…

I bought a HP 48 years after leaving college during which time I used a 15 and 41cx with card reader, even got into synthetic programming. Although I program PCs for work and fun, I still remember the excitement those little machines gave me during college years, dare I admit my ultra-geek status. HP really knew how to make quality calculators back then. I recently re-powered my 48 long enough to re learn some things, but tried taking it apart to fix the famous rubber strip keyboard problem. Not good, cracked the screen and warped the keyboard. I thought I was screwed. Then I downloaded this free program. Wow, I am shocked how close this emulator is to the real thing! I’m going to go though my 48 owners manual and see if I can reignite that college flame, it’s on medium right now.

Update - not changing my star rating, but I’m not a fan of the new logo. It looks like other HP calculator logos and it’s harder to find on the screen. Seems like it may be temporary, just to comply with IP, but I’d encourage you to dig deep and come up with something distinctive and cool. Previous review Like many here I was an m48+ fan and have been bereft ever since it was pulled and was forced to use alternatives. I always miss-hit the numbers such that the other programs were difficult to use. I never had that problem with m48+. Looking forward to more time on the app, but this seems to have big numbers to hit the target. Thanks for leaving the contribute link in the other comments.
