I think Lumbeat is King of the drummer apps in all categories except for two: Tones - On the kit based drummers I feel like the samples are really not comparable to high quality packs out there and I crave that extra polish and richness I get when working with great packs. You can run MIDI out for Lumbeat but then it’s more work on the processor and more headaches, esp if what you’re running into isn’t GM. If Soft, Funk and Rock had stronger quality tones that would be a huge upgrade for me. I’ve solved this problem as best I could by using mostly Soft for live and creating an fx chain as a master but I think it would be so much more inspiring to work with a master to enhance more good things instead. Design - it’s intense and unintuitive, but it’s useable so no stars off for that. I just feel overwhelmed even after using the apps for years. I feel the information and choices could be presented more beautifully and elegantly, with greater organization. But the usability, the playability, the feature set, the tones not sucking so bad I don’t want to use the app, the MIDI out option and exporting midi or audio, and so much more, really make up for those complaints time and time again. There is no drum app like this on iOS and if Lumbeat ports to desktop I will be there in a heartbeat. I use Logic’s smart drummer on desktop but throw on higher quality kits for the MIDI to port into and I still prefer Lumbeat’s internal set up over the smart drummer in logic. Wish there was a software like this for desktop use!
Funk Drummer offers a good variety of grooves and the ability to program a head to sequence different styles and even kits. If you put it in an application like AUM mixer/bus and use of a AUV3 plug-ins, you can direct record beats and funk around with the feel to your soulful delight. With adjustable swing and multiple real drummer screws emulated, this is a powerhouse app that could be used for demos or even professional studio applications. If you’re not satisfied with the in-house sounds, drop it in a DAW, or start it in AUM and direct-record out into Audioshare or a DAW for live performance/recording sessions. I have a needed to look any further than the customizable sounds that are in it, but I’m going to bet that this is a very nice midi controller. I love the odd meter and fusion groove templates. I’d love some more of the odd meter. And I am impressed by Nete Smith, which seems to be a great synthesis/combination of 2 great beatsmiths, Nate Smith and Steve Smith. Keep it funky!
so I have purchased all but a few of us guys apps and the two I most consistently use our Soft Drummer and this one. All of them are well worth the cost if you are serious about devising, interesting new beats if you’re looking for something to actually record studio quality, drums, I would say future drummer could cut that mustard probably not any of the others, but playing along with any one of them is really one of the best drum machine apps experience youll have. my only nit to pick is something technical about the other drummers available for purchase. I purchased the clyde drummer using my phone and I can access it on my phone but not on my iPad. I’d be happy to purchase it again for my iPad but I can’t even get that option. I did email the guy who makes this and he got back to me once but he didn’t respond the second round of requests for fixing it. again, a small nit to pick but i really want that clyde kit, get it?
Funk Drummer is the grooviest drum machine with the ability to improvise like a proper human drummer. Now with even more possibilities with the new 2d...
