If you’re serious about barbecue, the FireBoard 2 Drive Grill Thermometer isn’t just a gadget—it’s a full-on command center for your cook. First off, the build quality is outstanding. It feels like a professional tool, not some flimsy backyard accessory. The probes are durable, the unit is weather-resistant, and it’s clearly designed for long cooks—whether you’re running a brisket overnight or dialing in ribs for a competition. Where FireBoard really separates itself is the technology. The real-time monitoring through the app is flawless. You can track multiple temps (meat + pit) with incredible accuracy, and the WiFi + cloud connectivity means you can literally leave your house and still stay locked into your cook. For someone juggling a backyard party or running multiple pits, that’s a game changer. The Drive feature (on the Drive models) is elite. Pair it with a fan and it turns your smoker into a precision machine—holding temps steady like an oven. It takes a lot of the babysitting out of barbecue without sacrificing results. Battery life is another win. You’re not scrambling for chargers mid-cook—it just keeps going, which matters on those 12–16 hour sessions. Now, it’s not the cheapest option out there—but this isn’t meant to be. This is for people who care about consistency, data, and control. Whether you’re a backyard warrior or stepping into competition territory, it earns its price
This review speaks specifically about the integration with my Yoder 640S. Coming from another well known brand of smoker and app, the FireBoard is on a whole nother level. The amount of days you can log is insane. Pit temp, probe temps, auger speed, all laid out beautifully with different views available. Being able to add time stamped notes with photos helps to truly hone the absolute perfect cook. Plus, the ability to share the entire cook with friends is a classy touch. App response speed has also been flawless. Not only does the app look great on the iPhone, but they also have legit native iPad support. Your not stuck with using a scaled down iPhone version, or stuck awkwardly using the app in portrait, it’s a full beautiful landscape version. You can tell the people that make it actually use it. Lastly, the Apple Watch support is also excellent. You don’t get the full gauntlet of features you do on the iPhone/iPad, but you can quickly glance at it to check pit and probe temps. Perfect. Two things I would love to see in the future are a widget (would love to see the temps on my Home Screen without opening the app), and the ability to change the color of the different channels (hard to tell the difference between the two probes). Overall, I can’t speak highly enough of this beast of an app, you guys truly nailed it!
I got this a few days ago to monitor the temperatures on my outdoor wood boiler. The system exceeds my expectations. Got the basics figured out and working in a few minutes. Strapped two probes to my supply and return pipes and wrapped those with foam insulation; placed one against the chimney; and one sticks down under the boiler to get an outside temperature. The FireBoard connects easily to my WiFi access point in the garage about 30 feet away, even with the FireBoard being inside the metal cabinet of the boiler. I can’t speak a lot to accuracy, as I just have probes up against the things I’m measuring rather than submerged in the liquids (though the outdoor probe is within tolerance of my existing outdoor thermometer), but the sensitivity of the probes is great. I can see very clearly from drops in the return temperature when one or more zones of our house’s heating system is calling for heat, and it’s fun to see how all four of these temperatures relate to one another in a totally logical way. This gives me wonderful insight about the performance of the boiler and the consumption rate of the wood. Several minor requests for the app: (1) make the time and temperature pop up linger longer, it disappears after only a second or so, making it challenging to read after confirming I tapped on the intended spot of my graph; (2) allow dragging around on the graph to rapidly and precisely view different pop up readings along the graphs without having to tap each position separately; and (3) provide a way to specify a scheduled session start time, which I’d really like to have be midnight without the need to actually stay up until midnight to get started on the first night I use the FireBoard. Thanks FireBoard team for making a powerful and shockingly easy to use system for scientific temperature analyses.
