I loved every minute of this game. It is filled with mystery and chaos and even once you have finished it and the credits roll, you should play again because I promise there’s more to discover. With that said, it’s got a lot of glitches and lapses in logic within the gameplay. My best example is that you are able to tell one of the teachers about an injury another student has endured that she already knows about and she will run to the nurse as though she’s hearing about it for the first time.
When you find a strategy to escape blame and perfectly execute your plan make it through the term, it’s so satisfying. But it’s also just the start! There are so many secrets and hidden facets of the game to be discovered; going about my day I couldn’t stop thinking of loose ends I could pull and things I could do the next time I played. There are so many ways to play Verity, and your choices really matter! Not just because they affect the way each run goes, but because they change who your Verity actually is, what she wants, and what she’s willing to do. The way all your choices and rewinds are contextualized in the narrative is brilliant, and the structure of the game keeps prodding you to try different things and discover new interactions. It takes all the complexity of Overboard! and makes it look like a prototype. I’ve never played anything like Expelled!
I see that the game got an update and new endings on May 1 on Steam but there’s no information about when this update will come to iOS. I wish I had known that buying on steam grants new and quicker updates, I feel like I didn’t experience the ending because I chose the wrong platform :( I’ll update my review once the update gets released on ios because overall the game is amazing. Edit: it’s been more than 2 months and no update for iOS still; I understand if they’re having any technical issues but I wished they communicated upon the release that steam version will get the priority updates and support… I feel cheated out of my time due to a decision to buy it on apple store :(
