After the latest update, the app requires a sign in or account setup. It appears that the button that was previously available to bypass this requirement has disappeared. I can still get in to read news by holding the icon for several seconds and then using the pop up menu, but this is not very user friendly. This happens for both a Samsung S24 and S25.
Good news app, but its return to the start of an article any time I go back after looking at a picture or switch to landscape and back to portrait mode (whether deliberately or by accident). Very annoying. Also, my so-called local news feed is half full of international or national news. not sure if this is an algorithm thing, or just lazy editors of the local BC page.
Great content but I'm lowering my rating to one star because video hasn't worked for ages; I can only watch videos if I "share" the content with my browser and watch from there. Also, my phone's password manager can't distinguish between the Radio-Canada and CBC apps, making logins difficult. I contacted CBC about this and they basically told me to get lost. I found that unacceptable; they should have addressed the issue or at least explained it. The Radio-Canada app works flawlessly.
I like CBC news. But after two years, I am deleting the app because of ad boobytraps. I understand they need to include ads. I have no problem with that. But a lot of the ads are boobytraps - if you merely touch them while scrolling, you get a pop to a browser window and often then to the App Store. It makes scrolling through a story almost impossible. So this is a fail for the CBC. I guess Iโll go to the website occasionally and also use other news apps. The NYT is the king of them all anyway.
I like that it doesnโt have sensationalized titles. I also like that I can view local news or view national news. Lastly, I like the coverage of news happening with First Nations communities and with the territories. You donโt hear much about them but itโs important to be aware of the struggles and successes of our fellow Canadians living up north.
I live in the US, but this news app is like a โbreath of fresh airโ because all you get is unbiased, straight-forward news (similar to Reuterโs) WITHOUT all of the stupid commercial advertisements that render the majority of US news articles unreadable. The advertisements on US news sites have gotten so bad that they cause the storyโs content to โjumpโ constantly as ads are being loaded. I also love that I do NOT have to endure the endless, mind-numbingly stupid prompts instructing me to turn off ad-blockers in order to read an article! CBC News provides important world news stories that load quickly on my iPhone. (The only time I might have an issue is when I click on a news article thatโs linked to an American publication.) Itโs also good to see how the rest of the world views the US with all thatโs currently been happening here! CBC is the best! All of the rest (BING, Google, Apple News, et. al) donโt compare and ultimately drive me crazy with their inundation of ads, auto-play of video content and pay-walls thresholds. CBC News is an excellent news app! Keep up the great work. (Everyone else, take note... this is how News should be presented!)
