Blue Canoe: Speak English

I have been using Blue Canoe in my high school ESL classroom for over a year. It has been amazing. The students enjoy the challenging variety of conversation topics. They eagerly try to improve in their scores because the feedback is instantaneous. All the other features and activities that go with it are ever expanding. I’ve given each student their own color vowel chart and it is has really helped to differentiate and attack pronunciation and strengthen fluency. Company support is incredible and truly shows their heart is in the right place.

As an Instructor of adult learners, I really like this APP. It’s easy to use, fun, and takes minimum time away from busy lives, with maximum results. The Color Vowel System is easy for students to learn and start applying right from the start of the quarter. From the data generated within the APP, it’s clear that the students who spend just 10 minutes a day, make progress. Student feedback is positive, and that’s important. They confirm it not only clarifies pronunciation puzzles, but it helps grow vocabulary, reading and writing skills. I’m using the APP for a third quarter. It frees instruction time for other pronunciation activities. Blue Canoe, well done!

As someone who has been teaching people to speak English effectively and intelligibly for more than two decades, I highly recommend this excellent app! Both the app and the Color Vowel approach on which it is based is a game changer for teachers and students. It gives teachers and students a common language to refer to vowel sounds, and it helps students to understand the rhythm of English-something that is not taught often enough but is crucial for intelligibility. With the regular reminders from the app, students can stay on target and practice in a fun way, and look up their pronunciation doubts in the dictionary. Plus, the app just keeps improving all the time!
