Birdie-Break

I came to Canada when my baby was two months old, and I had to start my PhD immediately. The daycare waitlists took years to get a spot, and I came across Birdie after searching. I love everything about it! I loved that they did not just match me with someone; the sitter would offer, and we would go through their profile and choose the one I felt most comfortable with; it was reassuring that they were reliable and went through background checks and training. Another amazing feature is that I could book a setter for the whole semester without worrying about this every time. I booked several babysitting sessions with different setters; they all were fantastic and loving. As much as I felt awful leaving my son, as much as I felt great seeing that he was loved and taken care of. I was checking now and then using my baby cam, and every time I saw them hugging him, playing with him, and making him laugh, as a mother, nothing feels better than this! Whoever came up with the idea of this app is a genius and a lifesaver. I dont know how I could've gone through my PhD without Birdie.

Did Mia cancel? Did the app glitch? I’ll never know. One day my booking was there, I texted with the booked sitter, night of the gig I look back and “no bookings” greets me on the home screen. What? What a horrible experience.
