This is a really incredible drum machine, but it lacks some very basic things like multiple patterns or midi and audio controls. I want hand if I use his groove box itโs so limited that Iโm not sure how Iโm expected to perform. Am I switching between patterns while Iโm performing live? How is this use case meant to be set up? And if Iโm using this in another program as a drum machine itโs used for one shots and the pattern function isnโt use and itโs randomizing functions and probabilities arenโt used so what is worth $40 here? Bottom one is that for this cost I would expect that the randomization feature would at least have some common sense algorithms built-in to guide the randomization to some beat like sounds that actually are useful computer by sugar bites has all of the exact same features for less than this costs, and when the randomizes it keeps in mind that something should be a kick drum or a snare drum so that the basic dynamics of a beat are retained Things to keep in mind for future revisions boys?
Yes, it is another drum machine and groove box, but it is a great one. It rises in a single stride to the first rank of examples of the type. Battalion accomplishes this with a flavor all its own, with, for example, precise, type-friendly controls: double-tap a parameter to enter a desired value, when you know what you want, without fiddling with touch-screen GUI thingies, speeding the workflow for various program functions. The merging of synth and sample sound sources has been done in other apps, but not in this way, with these options. Modulation options are ample and easy. Sequencing is layered and potent. There is plenty going on without overwhelming a somewhat prepared or maybe - imagine - a manual-familiar user. For someone with favored rhythm/groove options already on this platform, as I am, this one still stands out as a characterful fun alternative that might even steal some quality time from even loyal users of other apps. It is not a problem - you can work with more than one drum machine. Do not deprive yourself of this lovely and sometimes edgy option. So when will we see Lion or other as-yet unmobilized but would-be must-buy tools from our friends at UF? For those of us who do not get enough time with our desktop/laptop set-ups, these mobile-platform releases are so very helpful. More, please.
Iโve got a slight addiction to iOS drum synth apps and can confidently say this is probably now the best one available (with apologies to Patterning and Drumcomputer). Sounds great, feels great, tons of depth while allowing for immediate happy accidents. The synth engines are various and flexible, the sequencer is fast and has lots of per-step tweakability, and modulating with the LFOs/envelopes is super easy. (My one gripe - it can be difficult to tell at a glance which parameters are being modulated, and by how much, while in the assignment screen. Maybe an additional highlight color would help?) The included samples are unique and play very nicely with the synth engines. My GAS for a Syntakt and Analog Rytm have been (temporarily) quelled by Battalion. Worth it at full price, a must-have at a discount. Oh and the themes/palettes are lovely. Highly recommended!
