Update: it’s now been almost a year since I first started playing these, and I am STILL just as obsessed. I’ve even played most of them over again. I am consistently impressed by the talent and effort that goes into such fun games!!!! ❤️ After discovering these games about a week and a half ago, I’m absolutely obsessed. I’ve played nearly all of them and was thrilled to find more single games available for download!!! The stories are captivating and unpredictable and the characters are loveable (I want Murphy and Kate to get together!!) The animation is stunning and every scene is visually fascinating with incredible attention to detail. Every new puzzle I open is thrilling and I never get bored of them. They’re all masterfully made! Often while playing I think of the hours that must have been dedicated to creating this game and WOW, it pays off and is evident. The literal ONLY thing that is frustrating is that you have to wait a certain period of time to get “keys” necessary to unlock levels. But unlike many games, it’s a reasonable amount of time, and you can watch some ads to speed it up! When I play casually, I never run out of keys. Only when I’ve been playing a TON of levels back to back have I run out quickly. The levels are long though, so it’s absolutely reasonable. And I suppose it forces me to take a break though :D anyways, just a stellar job all around. thank you, thank you to the teams behind this game!
Haiku games are some of the only escape games in the App Store worth playing. Compelling stories, user friendly, fun puzzles and interaction, and aesthetically pleasing. I’ve been a long time fan. Despite that, I’ve never left a review. I’m leaving a review now because I think it’s important to advocate for a product I enjoy, as well as contextualize this new game format. I know it’s received a lot of (I believe) unfair criticism. Normally I take issue with app models that require you to wait to play, but Haiku escape games are so high quality that I can’t really begrudge them. Most escape games in the App Store are depressingly low quality. Haiku games are the exception and take time, energy and skill to produce and we are lucky enough to play them FOR FREE. Most games like this would require payment upon purchase. Each chapter is long enough that I think that so long as the ads only play after COMPLETING the chapter I don’t think it’s unreasonable for the producers to use this model. This is a quality product that the game designers deserve to be compensated for. A potential solution might be a pricier in-app purchase that gives unlimited keys, or however many keys are needed to complete a story without needing to purchase more. That way users who take issue with the new format can buy out a story and play freely, but game producers are still compensated fairly.
I have played and loved all the haiku games, so i was really excited when i saw this new app, where there were multiple games within one app! i love that idea, i love how we no longer have to download a new app every time a new game comes out. and yes, another thing that is different from in previous games is the keys. i am pretty annoyed by the amount of people that have to audacity to complain about the keys. i have always been extremely impressed with these haiku games, and always so so so grateful, and surprised, that i could play them for free without having to buy the app. these games are such high quality, and the creators really deserve to make some money out of this, so if that means adding keys then i completely support that. these games are still able to be played 100% free, and the adds are to such a minimum you often forget the game even has them. i, personally, actually enjoy the keys, because it allows me to pace myself while playing the game. i used to waste my entire day away playing these games, but now i have to pace myself, which is good. one key gives you at least an hour of gameplay, and when the key holder is full, there are 2 keys. one really shouldn’t play a game for longer than two hours a day, but if you really want to, you can help support the creators by buying a key, or you can wait three hours, which really isn’t that long, given you get two hours of game play after each wait. i love love love these games, my only complaint is waiting for the new games to come out. it would be great if there was a release date, so i could count down the days.
