This is an excellent password manager. I’ve pretty much used all the major / popular ones and this one honestly makes me feel the most secure and actually seems to work best across devices. An example of that is when you update your password on one device it instantly is updated on all of them. I know that sounds basic but lastpass, Microsoft and apple password managers always seem to have a problem actually doing this which leads to a lot of frustration. It’s also just the best if you use lots of browsers and different types of devices since obviously apple and MS don’t exactly play well together. I had issues with Face ID not working previously as I’m sure many others experienced. 1Password customer service did everything they could to ensure i was a happy. They listened to and acknowledged the issue helped me with a workaround while they worked on an update for their app. They followed up afterwards on multiple occasions. really just took care of me at every level I’m impressed by their customer service and technical support. I highly recommend this app and company.
I used 1Password 7 for years. Didn’t pay for it but never had an issue. Decided to upgrade to 8 with a paid subscription. A few months in I couldn’t access my account on the app on any device. Says my password had a typo, try again. I was still able though to access my vault thru a browser. Reached out to support to troubleshoot. In my pie research I found that a new app could cause an issue. The only one I downloaded during that time was another password manager (it had old, old password that wasn’t on 1pass). Seems that’s what caused it to glitch. Deleted the offending app and was able to access my account on my phone again. Few weeks later same thing happened again. Couldn’t access vault on any device, even with secret key, but this time, also couldn’t access on browser either. Reached out to support again and over the course of 2+ weeks via email ONLY (no chat, no phone support), the final solution they came up with is to make a new account, delete the old but the passwords (over 400) I had stored would not be recoverable. Huh??? THAT was/is not a solution. When the issue 1st occurred I spent 4 hrs copying and pasting my passwords into a spreadsheet and then printed it….just in case. Well just in case happened. 1Password 7 worked just fine for years. No glitches. No issues. Signed in and accessed my information. The minute I “upgraded” to 1Password 8, it has been a total nightmare. It is touted as THE best out there but for me, not so. Now I’m looking for a new manager.
I held out on 1Password 7 as long as I could but it got to the point that browser extensions wouldn’t work anymore, essentially crippling the product. Clicked the migrate to 1Password 8 button and after a while got a migration failed message that instructed me not to touch anything and support will contact me. I don’t know how many days they expected me to wait with no passwords, but I gave up the next day and emailed them instead of waiting. I have over 1,000 items in 1Password. After going back and forth asking where the logs are or how to figure out what failed, the only suggestion support gave me was to go 1-by-1 and compare what is in 1Password 8 to 1Password 7 on a device that hadn’t been updated yet. Many of my items have several attachments so each of those would have to be compared manually. This process would take days. I gave up on support which tools days between replies and never seemed to care what happened (thanks Marcus!). I came up with a system that dumped my vaults to CSV, sorted, and diffed to look for missing items and hand verified all the attachments. I’m about 90% confident in what got migrated. I still have no idea what part of the migration failed. So now I run 1Password 8, and the user experience is so much worse than 7, at least on a Mac. I purchased every 1Password since 2 (2,3,4,5,6,7) but now I’m on the stupid subscription model. Now that I can at least use my passwords in browsers, I’m looking to see what other managers are out there. 1Password seems to have pivoted to enterprise so I’ll pivot to another manager that still values non-enterprise users.
