We moved our banking from a local bank to Relay… tisk tisk But here’s the thing - we’re in the 21st century. That doesn’t mean “online access” is enough for a business. Having free control of access and movement within the various accounts is necessary - and with Relay, doable. While I have a couple gripes with customer service and access to a person, the user system excels and let’s my brain do what it needs to do to stay on top of our various goals as a small business. Your banking shouldn’t revolve around a single account where you hope you have enough for such and such. With Relay, you don’t have to live that way.
I tried this bank for my business because I was recommended this bank. I haven’t even had this account for more than 3 months and while I’m working I check my account to see they allowed a $200 fraud charge from Kuwait into my business account. The very money that was needed for my supplies. Without reaching out or flagging it (because I never made any international purchases either) they just processed the payment. I had to wait the day after to call them just for them to tell me that a temporary credit would be coming on my account in 2 weeks - even though the money was taken out asap - so it’s been a couple days and I still don’t have a credit or the money that was taken from my account. They also said they don’t do any correspondence by email only by mail and it can take up to 3 months for them to process my dispute (as if it’s not already fraud there’s nothing to discuss!!) and if my case comes back as denied then they will reverse the charge so immediately I am so beyond disappointed I missed my rent payment due to the month not being there and $200 that’s rightfully mind I have missing and can not use at all towards my business the way I wanted to. Immediately cancelling after I get the deposit because you should not be offering services to business if you can’t even do a good job at maintaining business accounts!!
I run a small business, and I decided to try Relay due to their services and low fees compared to the bigger banks. Now, I understand there’s a lot of concerns about a lot of documents, forms and personal forms you need to upload, and the process taking weeks (which is true, but not a problem to me). However, one of the screening requirements ask for a business bank statement from a previous bank. Now why would Relay ask for a previous business bank statement if that’s the whole reason I’m applying for a BUSINESS Bank account? Unfortunately, they do not take personal bank statements that has business activity, so I guess my only recommendation would be that Relay is probably a good bank if you already own a business bank account and are looking to switch, but it seems they are unfriendly and un-eager to help and support new businesses.
