Reviews: What People Think About Kerflux

Picked it up from a friend’s recommendation; it’s incredibly fun to play, as well as soothing (solving via audio cues). Feature Request: Would it be feasible to implement a customizable configuration for adjusting the auto assist sensitivity as your multi-wave-shape-amalgation nears the shape of the level’s cutout / goal? I’m referring to the autoassist at the completion of a level; the amount of help it provides gets pretty noticeable at around the level 70ish mark to me, particularly after reading the criticisms from the review about Fourier Transforms on March 2nd of this year. Perhaps, after completing all the levels of the game (and upon unlocking Endless mode), indicate to users that this feature is available (should enough users notice this as well and make a point about it to request tweaking). Aside from that- thank you for creating this wonderful game, and implementing it in such a way that my recently met newfound friend was able to bring this to my attention (and I regret not having found it earlier!).

Kerflux presents a unique challenge of picking up on visual cues and component patterns as you try to build the waveform out of simple harmonic building blocks. As an introduction to a field of math that had previously scared me off just from hearing the name, this game provides a simple and intuitive expression of Fourier analysis. I love a game that really engages the brain. 151 waves in and it’s still an interesting endeavor. Criticism: I really hate how the solution-assist (that thing that will slightly adjust all the waves into a perfect fit when you’ve got it all the components in a close enough position) is so sensitive. Too often I’ve seen the waves drift into place while I was still trying to understand what I was doing and how the waves were building. On that same note I also wish the audio cues made more sense. I’m not asking to listen to the timbre of each wave (what the shape of the wave actually sounds like). As interesting a challenge as that might be that i get the feeling that would probably not be pleasant. It would, however, be really cool if each wave that was more in place would reveal a different part of the soundtrack instead of the whole track fading in and out. I don’t know, I mostly play with the sound off cuz I don’t like how it helps me solve the puzzle without actually understanding and solving the puzzle.

And so I did. Really chill, neat concept where you just kinda figure it out with intuition. Only complaint is the difficulty plateaus so the endgame is very repetitive. One tip: when you get to the highest difficulty levels, use four fingers at a time and just kinda feel it out with each finger going at a different speed or direction. I’ve completed some levels before the waveform even loaded. Love the vibes here and appreciate the developer’s pricing model. I unlocked all achievements in like two sittings, if that’s your thing.
