Reviews: What People Think About DSM-5 Diagnostic Criteria

Used to love this app. Updated it, and now it’s useless. It’s like navigating a poorly-made pirated PDF version of a huge text. It’s very hard to navigate. If I’m looking up delirium for example, it brings me to a page resembling the text version of the DSM-5 somewhere in the neurocognitive chapter and NOT anywhere near the delirium section (ironically, completely disorienting). Then I have to scroll through pages and pages, using my not-so-photographic memory of where the delirium criteria are located in the chapter. Until I finally give up and resort to Google. But now I see other people’s reviews, and I see I’m not the only one struggling. Please please please change it back to how it was before! It was amazing and so useful. I am actually having a very hard time imagining how the decision and planning around changing the app occurred! All that come to mind is the show, The Office!

This app will not be everything you need to make a correct diagnosis. However, it does what it says it does and I find it useful. As far as the price it is perhaps overpriced, due to the lack of information on Z codes (which does seem like an easy fix), etc. But keep in mind, full access to APA’s DSM-5 online, a complete and very useful tool, is over $500 for an individual 1 year subscription. You likely purchased the book version of the DSM-5 for over $100. Here, you are paying for quick access to criteria for the billable diagnoses. I found all the reviews I read accurate, so read them and decide whether or not the app is worth it for your purposes. If your needs have been identified as missing from the app, then it will be a disappointment.

This used to be an excellent app which I referenced on a regular basis. It was very user friendly in all aspects. Since the update, this app has turned into a big annoying document with terrible search features. I am baffled at how the update could be such a disappointing loss of quality. I see that other reviews share my opinion. Please change it back to when it was actually useful. The new search feature fails to yield much more than in-text terms. Again, please change it back to how it was. This was my go to app before the update, now I cannot use it. If I could I would give less than 1 star. You have to manually scroll through a whole Document to somehow find the category or disorder you are looking for (if you find it in time). Before it would take no more than 5 Seconds to find what I was looking for. I am not exagerating.
