Just try it. Simple, beautiful, intuitive, with just one feature executed well.
Update a year later: Still great. Minimalist, just what you need for seated meditation, zen or otherwise. The visual timer option is also handy for letting your significant other know when you'll be available again without interrupting you. I use it almost every morning.
That said, if you want voice-guided meditation, meditation instruction, social features, or long-term tracking, this isn't the right app.

Simple, uncluttered, with very lovely instruments. You can choose among several instruments and adjust the number of times they are struck at both the beginning and end of the session. Also has an interval timer, which is helpful for anyone who combines different techniques during a single sitting (for example, breath-following and loving kindness, or open monitoring and concentration practices). Set-up is simple and intuitive.

I’ve been looking for a basic meditation timer without all of the bloat and unnecessary features. This also works with Do Not Disturb enabled. A plus is being able to connect to the health app to automatically log my time.
About Zenso Meditation Timer
Zenso is a simple meditation timer app with a twist. Instead of just a countdown timer, Zenso draws an animated Zen Enso (circle) as the session time elapses. This gives the meditator an easy glimpse of how much time has elapsed. A countdown timer is optional.
The Zenso Meditation Timer includes:
- optional start session countdown time
- six instruments, silence or vibrate for session start/end indicators
- instrument can have 1-3 strikes
Version 2.0 of the Zenso Meditation Timer is a Universal App which works with any iPhone or iPad with iOS6.0 or higher though the interface changes were made with iOS7 in mind.
The Zenso Meditation Timer is being released as a FREE app with no ads. I have other features that I left out of the initial release and may begin charging for the next version.
