This app allows you to store patterns, insert notes, and sync with Ravelry. I like having all my patterns in one place to quickly scan through before deciding on a project. I find that I don’t use the app though because of what I DON’T like. When it first came out years ago, you used to be able to upload PDFs directly from your computer, but now you have to have a Dropbox or iCloud account — which I don’t use because neither offer adequate privacy or encryption for files. There are sample patterns included with the app — that you cannot rename or delete. So if you don’t want them, too bad, you are stuck with them mixed in with your own patterns. You can’t even give them a name (like z-pattern) to put them at the end of the alphabetical list where you don’t have to see them. Tech support says this is because some people complained when they accidentally deleted them. Seems like a lame reason to make everyone else have patterns in their library they don’t even want. You also cannot rename your own patterns to include any type of non-alphabetical character (like a comma, as in “Scarf, Reticular” if you like to organize patterns by type). Finally, you can’t read an entire pattern as a PDF, you can only see the first page. You have to turn it into a project in order to actually view all the content. The app has a lot going for it, but room to improve before its truly customizable

I hate this app. And the thing I hate about it most is that it could be so great. Imagine being able to take your patterns with you everywhere without having to mess with any paper, tracking your way through complex charts as you annotate your progress right on the chart, color coding your patterns, embedding annotations. It should be great. but it is almost impossible to find an answer to a question. The process of setting up a project is complex and the only help is a bare-bones user manual that I have never found useful and un-indexed tutorial videos that start with a great deal of useless information, or information that you don't need to hear 15 times as you try to find a place where your question might be answered. Most of the time, it isn't. I have spent more time trying to set up projects that I have knitting, especially when it comes to charts. Also I find the app unstable. One of the tutorial videos, which I think might have one of my answers on it, only plays for two seconds and then shuts off. I have been working with this Knit Companion software for a year. I keep hoping it will eventually come through, but I just get more and more frustrated. If a competitor comes along I will be gone in a minute.

I got this app hoping to help me track my spot in charts. There is no explanation (including the guides, website, the app itself) what functions are in the free version vs the different add ons. I bought the magic markers add on to try to track a pdf pattern but you need the full version to manipulate a pdf chart. You can only use magic markers in a pre-formatted chart from kC. Tech support was pretty glib and referenced their other products in the explanation (how should i know what those do?). I am a millenial, usually tech savvy and have been a self taught knitter working on complex patterns. I am too frustrated to want to shell out 10$ for the full version now. I understand a steep learning curve but the developers have made it very user un-friendly figuring out their product functions and im sure they’ve lost sales because of it. At least my business.
