Well designed. I’ve been collecting stitch dictionaries for almost 50 years and that collection really took off after I saw my first Japanese stitch book and realized all I had to do to in order to work those gorgeous stitches was to drop my stubborn refusal to learn how to read charts. But none of those dictionaries are useful away from home. When I’m out, I always have a basic two-at-a-time toe-up sock project in my bag that usually morphs into “design as you go” and that’s when this app is most useful.I can always count on finding a suitable stitch pattern that I easily convert to circular knitting & the necessary stitch count. And since both written and charted instructions are given, I think this is a fine way for those knitters accustomed to written patterns to teach themselves how to use charts. To be able to see a line of text transformed visually with one glance can be liberating especially for those of us who are getting older and find once clear abbreviations can get harder to work with.

This app needs work, y’all. My biggest complaint about is the app does not have a saved/cached version of the swatch photos. Instead, every time you open the app, it re-downloads all the swatch photos from the internet — not terribly convenient, especially if you have a slow data connection or if you’re paying for data by the byte. This also means if you want to use the app while you’re traveling and do not have an internet connection, all the photos are missing. Additionally, many of the charts are tiny, especially the more complex stitches, and they’re impossible to read in the app. The app also does not allow you to zoom in or magnify. I ended up working around this major limitation by taking screencaps, then opening the photos from my Camera Roll and zooming in.

I love this app. There is nothing like it on the App Store. But... I lost my internet connection and needed to look up stitch abbreviations. I opened Texxture for the first time in a while, and I can’t find them anywhere! If the glossary is still there, it’s practically hidden. It says on the description page that there are three (4?) main sections, one of which is abbreviations. I know programming an app takes a lot of work and can be tedious. I appreciate that SOMEONE made a stitch app and pays the fees to keep it running on the App Store... and deals with user complaints, haha. It’s an awesome, extremely useful app! Really deserves 5 stars, and is totally worth the $1.99. I just took one away because I wish it had the abbreviations dictionary! That was a super important part for me.

A growing Knitter’s stitch dictionary. Currently, this knitting app has three main sections: Categories, Favorites, Search, and Abbreviations with over 300+ stitch types!

Please note an initial internet connection is required to cache the images of the stitches. Because of the large number of stitches available, it may take awhile to load all of the images depending on the speed of your internet connection.

Categories: Stitches are currently organized by 12 categories:

New this Month: A list of all the latest stitches added.

Favorites: This list of stitch types is created by you! At each stitch’s details page, there is an option to add that stitch to your favorites list. Add as many stitch types as you want, and delete any stitch types at any time by tapping on the star again in the stitch's details page you want to remove. If a stitch has a green star, it means it is included in your favorites list.

Search: Currently you can search by keywords, or a combination of keywords and categories. The keywords you type will search not only through the stitch type names, but also their description and instructions. Example searches include:

Example 1: Search in Keywords: ‘Mul of 4 sts’ and the results will include all stitch types that have a multiple of 4 stitches in their instructions.

Example 2: Search in keywords and categories: Leave both areas blank! The results will show all stitch types currently included in the app.

Abbreviations: Search bar included at the top for ease of use. When you find the abbreviation you need, click on it in the list and another page will open with its explanation.
