Reviews: What People Think About Dungeons of Dreadrock

I never write reviews, but this game is so fantastic I simply had to give it one. I have never been so engrossed in a mobile game before - ever.
The controls are simple and streamlined; I had a little trouble with the touchscreen aspect of them but they are still some of the best touchscreen controls I've seen for a game.
The gameplay is super satisfying. Each level is short and sweet, but very engaging and well-crafted. Not a single dud among them!
The story, which I was not expecting to be anything more than an excuse for a dungeon crawl, was very engaging! I felt connected to these characters and became emotionally involved.
The art style is great. Simple, functional, and mood-setting. It also does a great job of evoking classic dungeon crawler games of yore.
I highly recommend playing with sound on! Sound effects are great, and though minimal the voice acting is extremely well-done.
Not too hard, not too easy gameplay. Every level is, at its heart, a puzzle to be solved. No life counters, no timers, just you and a puzzle. Hints are available but they are 100% optional.
Ads aren't too bad, either. Ads only play as you move between levels, they never pop up right in the middle of a level. I did pay to remove ads, but mostly because I wanted to support the awesome developers!

An all around incredible work of art. Dungeons of Dreadrock combines all the best elements of adventure games into a dungeon crawling puzzler. And the story arc and fantastic writing add even more to make an all around witty and fun game. Every new level keeps you on your toes to think through challenges in new ways, either introducing new mechanics or remixing prior ones. While short at only 100 levels this is a great mobile game and well worth the $1.99 for an ad free experience. In a day and age where freemium games don’t stop nagging you the developers really did a great job balancing between ad revenue and giving the player a way out with a very small and reasonable fee. This game is worth much more than they are asking for, so I was happy to purchase and support the work. Would love to see more mobile games like this out there!

I’ll get the one drawback out of the way first. The controls can be a little imprecise. But it does not really negatively impact the game because of the manner in which it is set up. If you lose the level because of it, it just restarts. There are also some little tricks with starting levels, but people will figure those out on their own.
One suggestion is to stagger the hints. If it takes you five minutes to get to the first hint, maybe give it another 4 minutes for the second hint, etc. I know I don’t HAVE to read the hints, but once you’ve opened the hints, it’s hard to not read additional, available hints if you’re still stuck. I know it’s balancing frustration, though.
I hope you guys keep at it. Really good game.
