Reviews: What People Think About Rhythm Cat 2

I’m a musician and an educator. I think this is an excellent tool. My children are now learning instruments, and I just got it for them. They really enjoy it so far. There is some room for improvement. The first level has quarter notes and eighth notes. By the third or fourth level there are sixteenth notes. For someone who has been a musician for a while, it’s fine, but for beginners, that’s a very quick progression. From what I’ve seen, this would be perfect for a student who has been learning for a while already or can get some basic guidance from a musician. It doesn't really teach the rhythms, but you do get instant feedback. I’d like to see an easier progression in the beginning and some assistance with learning. Rhythm instruction is closely related to language instruction. I wonder if a few small adjustments would make this a valid tool to improve reading readiness and reading skills, especially for those with dyslexia....I was just working on a literature review on this topic. You’ll have to get in touch if you want additional consultation.

This rhythm app is the best. I am speaking as a piano teacher and as a piano player. The rhythms are a little too hard for my beginner students but great once students are past the beginner stage. Even an advanced player can be tripped up. The game play is smooth and the music is very pleasant to listen to. Many well know classical pieces are used. They also use original music. I wish they would publish sheet music for the original songs. Or perhaps a list of the names of the songs for each level along with the composer. Please make more. I know I would happily pay for additional songs.

I love the concept, but couldn’t get the dotted eighth with a sixteenth note rhythm to work. As a result, scoring was off. I can still use it with my students, but can’t recommend they purchase it for home use. Also, where’s the outline that shows which note values are in each level? That’s really helpful in RC1. Update: I was using speaker. There was just enough lag time to mess it up. Using iPad speaker, we’re back in business! Still want the table of contents, though!
