There are no shortcuts to learning a new language- but there are efficient and effective methods for those who are willing to put in the time and Babbel brings those methods forward to your immense benefit in this killer app. I’m happy with what I’ve been able to learn and retain this far, and for the contemporary nature of the curriculum. I own Rosetta Stone for Russian- and tho a worthy learning method itself, the content is dated. Babbel’s content feels fresh and modern. And it’s a little price tag for what you’re getting in return. I’ve bought a lot of language apps, programs and books. If you’re gonna buy just one - make it this one.

This is the best app I’ve tried for learning Russian, certainly superior to Duolingo. (I recommend supplementing with Tinycards for reinforcement though)
My main criticism is that the pace of questions is much slower than seems reasonable. Pronunciation exercises don’t start until you hit the speech bubble; they should auto-roll the first time. There are also big pauses between entering text answers, even beyond hearing them read aloud. No reason the next input can’t overlap with the previous reading. For anyone using multiple apps to learn, its frustrating to have to dawdle through familiar material. Some of the exercises are too easy, in particular the “sort these three words in order”.
One suggested improvement: on an error, the app should highlight which characters I got wrong. It can be hard to see whether I screwed up the lesson at hand or just typo’ed a character.

I have Rosetta Stone, duolingo, you name it. This app blows them out of the water. It's useful, methodical, and even better, when I work on my iPad and then go to my phone, it updates my progress. This means I don't have to do the same section over and over.
I've been trying to learn Russian for several years for my wife's family. It's finally happening, and the spelling practice is nailing it down even better. I'd recommend this to everyone! 5 stars, all day! Even though it's a yearly subscription, it's worth it. I've doesn't easily a thousand dollars together on other stuff, but this actually works!
