App Profile: Advanced 911 - Text 911

Send text messages, photos, your address and GPS location to participating 9-1-1 centers / PSAPs. If a local 9-1-1 center isn’t available, we’ll help you send a text message with your location to a friend so they can call 9-1-1 for you.

Can’t I send texts to 9-1-1 today?

Most every 9-1-1 center in the USA today doesn’t support SMS/text messaging. The only way to contact them using a phone is through a voice call, whether land-line, mobile or VoIP (Voice over IP).

Why is texting important?

• Someone has broken into your home. You’re hiding in your closet, what would you rather do? Call 9-1-1 or silently text 911?

• You’re hard of hearing or speech impaired. Texting is a perfect solution.

• You see a person committing a crime. You take a picture and send it to 911.

• You’re locked in a trunk after being abducted. Silently texting 911 with your position could save your life.
