I moved from NFCU a year ago to USAA but came back recently because USAA will hold your check or other deposit for up to 9 days and nothing you say to them will make them release your money. I cried when I couldn’t buy groceries and put gas in my car. I had my auto and home insurance with them over 8 years in good standing , but over the years it seemed as if different owners took it over, it’s so bad right now; Reviews on trust pilot shows a 1 star. I had moved because it seems as if there is insider theft going on a. Say I have $5000 in my account on Friday, then o go shopping or different vendors take out money, t NFCU. I can see the total balanced reducing over the weekend then on Tuesday all the pending transactions of which was already deducted from the total comes out again. It’s like two times the amount comes out. This often leaves me with a negative balance resulting in an overdrawn fee of $29, or the balance is so low it can’t pay the rest of my bills. The last thing that happened before the update was, I had $5000 then during the weekend I could see each deduction from the balance when I purchased an item, my balance went down to $2950 but when Tuesday came, the balance went down to $1400 which wasn’t enough to pay my mortgage. I asked that they do an audit and they said they don’t do audits. The new update does not allow any of that to happen. No money will be deducted from the account balance over the weekend until Tuesday it all comes out. The updated app is so much better.
I woke up on payday and immediately went to check my balance. As I went on my phone I saw nfcu had sent me a message asking if I had made a purchase for a large amount of money. I was confused and opened the app. I had a 0 balance and money from my savings was gone. Replied to the message with a No and called the number right away. I was really stressed because my whole paycheck and most of my savings was spent on fraudulent charges. I also had a job interview that morning so I knew I couldn’t make it into a branch right away. Over the phone they cancelled my card and reported the multiple charges as fraud. They told me I could stop by a branch at any time to pick up my new card and that I needed to change my password. They said since the amount of money was pretty large (a few thousand dollars) it would take a few business days to see all my money back. After my interview I went straight to a branch. I immediately was given a new card and sure enough about three days later all my money was back into my account and the fraud charges were declined. I want to thank nfcu for having real people on the phone and for taking care of the issue so quickly. Their customer service is the best I’ve ever seen from a financial institution. Also as a young adult I was ready to start building my credit. I got their secured nRewards card which was such an easy process. About 6 months later I had graduated to an unsecured card with a decent credit score. Nfcu truly cares about its members and they do a great job showing it.
I don’t know what i would have done without everyone from navy fed that helped me during this time. On 8/21 a fraudulent charge was made on my PayPal account. Paypal REFUSED to give me a refund even after multiple inquiries. So i had to contact navy federal. Every person i talked to was doing everything they could to help me. When i called they couldn’t see the transaction because it had not posted from paypal to my account. So they asked if i wanted to create a new checking account (because my paypal was connected to my checking) and they said it would possibly stop the transaction from posting and you wont have to worry about someone having access to that information. I did so. They transferred everything from one account to the other. During all this, they were kind to ease my worries. They reassured me that if it did process that they would get my money back. Unfortunately, i had a pending paycheck coming in on my old checking account and right when it posted to my account... PayPal processed the transaction. Literally within seconds of each other. This happened at 10pm last night 8/24. I immediately called nfcu and they sent me an unauthorized transaction form. I filled it out and sent it right back a few minutes later. This morning i had checked my account and my funds were BACK in my account! If it wasn’t for everyone that helped me at nfcu i would’ve lost my money. I learned a good lesson and I will NEVER use PayPal again.
