I had never considered what could be missing for fun interaction, it's Shayk. Social anxiety is a real issue especially after the world experienced Covid-19 on such a debilitatingly large scale. TikTok invades the privacy of everyone, Facebook sells our personal info like the stock market, and Instagram feels phony. So what do we do? We use our beautiful voices to tell stories & jokes, sing songs, and give life lessons with Shayk! I had spent 18 weeks staring at the news as the Covid news got worse. Businesses were closing indefinitely and I missed conversations. The prompts in the app help delve into earnest discussions. It's a ton of fun to engage in the community with an element of almost Mad Libs-esque give and take. I commiserated with other people on their worst date experiences, loved their best dad jokes, told my own worst (unexperienced as of yet)fear of haunted houses, and felt safe in the Shayk community. I don't know how they do it so well but the app never crashes! The experience is exactly what I needed as an outlet to not feel left out of healthy & enjoyable conversations. I still believe in our post-Covid world that I get the opportunity to engage without pressure here!

After testing for the Shayk for the past couple months, I have to say that the app has really shown me a new outlet to communicate with other people across the world. Standard apps such as Snapchat, Instagram, and Facebook are reliant on people using visual stories, posts, and content that overall attract their consumers. The same can’t be said of the Shayk app whose platform is strictly only audio and brings forth an interesting method to communicating with people online. In most ways this platform is actually a blessing in disguise as it helps people be more genuinely aware of not only their followers ideas and beliefs but vice versa when they share their own content. Being restricted to using only audio messages in the app is in a way, a better alternative to understanding more of a persons personality and their decisions than by looking through images of their personal appearances or their day to day lives. Making and listening to these messages in the app helps people connect with each other heart to heart, and that is why I am giving it five stars!

I cannot stress enough how fun it is to use SHAYK. I’ve never really been able to get into other social media platforms like TikTok or Instagram but this is downright addicting! Not only is SHAYK incredibly easy to navigate and use, it also includes a ton of “challenges” you can use as starting points if you need ideas for posts. There are categories pretty much everything and there’s almost always at least one interesting prompt to respond to in whatever way you like. SHAYK is an especially great platform if anonymity or social anxiety is a concern; you will never have to show your face – or anything at all for that matter – if you don’t want to, as nearly everything is done with your voice. Even profile/station descriptions and comments are voice recordings rather than readable text. Using SHAYK is like having short conversations about anything and everything without any of the pressures of directly interacting with another person. For introverts like me, this is about as good as it gets!
