App Profile: Escape room：Scarlet Leaves

It looks like it’s going to be a simple cube game, until opening a sequence of doors reveals a large, detailed apartment. So the game turns out to be sprawling and complex, with additional mini games. This was great fun. The neutral aesthetics are gorgeous.

This was a nice, reasonably long game with lots of rooms and puzzles. Some of the puzzle clues were a bit obscure, but it wasn’t too difficult. What bothered me most, for some reason, was the constant thought “why did the developer name this game Scarlet Leaves?” and use an icon showing cute little animals playing in brightly colored autumn leaves. There are no leaves. The game’s rooms are indoors. And there is no scarlet, or much other color to speak of. In fact, the one word that bests describes the setting is “Drab.” It’s mostly gray tones with a few bits of color here and there. There are a few animals, but even their colors are muted, and they don’t do much. Even most of the puzzles pretty much look the same, with a few exceptions. I probably wouldn’t have thought much about the discrepancy if not for the title, but as I said, it’s visually a very drab game.
