This app was great for me as a cataract patient. There are two major benefits. First, you can see exactly what is required on the days preceding and following the procedure. For example, each day around my surgery (out to and including day 30) the app listed the medications I would need to take that day and the activities I should avoid. Second, the app will send a reminder on your iPhone or Apple Watch during the day at each time a medication needs to be taken. You can easily set the times to your schedule. It is not a generic "take in the morning;' you can set it for 5am (or 10am). (It can be easy to forget to apply those eye drops in the middle of a busy day.) With the app, there is no excuse for skipping a dose. The app also provides an interactive set of assessment activities that you can (and should) complete. The results of these activities can be submitted to the doctor with one click. This means you can feel comfortable knowing the your recovery can be followed easily by your surgeon and the team. I hope to see the app and its potential extended to other procedures soon.

I highly recommend that patients use the Sharp Health Companion app! I have this app on my iPhone and it also sends me reminders through my Apple Watch! Dr. Korn and staff were very helpful and installed the app for me, explained how it’s used and encouraged me and my husband to use it. It is useful for patients and their care givers because it provides daily reminders of pre and post surgery care. There are videos available that answered any questions or concerns that I had. The app provides reminders of what you need to do to prepare for the surgery (like setting doctor appointments, picking up prescriptions, etc), what’s needed to bring the day of the procedure and post-surgery daily tasks (eye drops, eye exercises, pain tolerance). The tasks are tracked and summarized in a report that you send to Dr. Korn through the app. Very easy! Dr. Korn reviewed my report and replied to my email within 24 hours. Dr. Korn and staff treat their patients like family and the Sharp Health Companion adds a higher level of outstanding service!

This app was a lifesaver! My father with dementia and many other health complexities needed cataract surgery. As his caregiver it’s easy to have my own mind going in a hundred different places. The care plan that his physician setup on this app truly made an overwhelming process so easy and efficient leading up to surgery and during recovery. The notifications kept us on track and saved us both additional headaches. Often there is a lot of information given at consultations and for a person with dementia it’s even harder to comprehend and retain the information. I was able to utilize the app to show my father videos and remind him of his care plan. He could be better involved in the process with going through the checklist each day. Wonderful app, so grateful this was afforded to us by Sharp Healthcare.
