Reviews: What People Think About GitHawk for GitHub

We recently moved all of our projects to GitHub, and although it’s mostly been a pleasurable experience, using a mobile browser to review notifications and respond was becoming a bit unbearable.
The upcoming local notifications (via background app refresh) feature is an absolute game-changer. Thanks so much for a killer app that I would gladly pay for.

By far the best iOS GH client out there, unfortunately it falls short in several aspects.
Most notably is the lack for projects. Personally I use projects in several of my repos to organize issues and track releases, but I cannot with this app.
Another issue is discovery. It is difficult to find projects you own or contribute to as there is no profile of any sort. You have to search by project name, which also indexes all of GH. Mine was the last project in a number of projects when searching its name. Luckily for me there were only a few results, but I can imagine it being more difficult to find something a bit more common.
It also seems it struggles loading/ displaying images in README’s.
Aside from that, it’s a great app. It was easy to get started and navigation is clearly labeled and intuitive. Design is a fantastic mix between native iOS and GH elements, making it feel familiar and professional.
One concern of mine is the update frequency. The last update was 2+ months ago, and I prefer apps to be maintained and developed a little more frequently than that. But for a free app, I’m not complaining.

GitHawk is a really helpful app! It doesn’t yet support everything you can do on the website (although it does support things you can’t normally do on mobile), but you can always hit the share button then tap “Open in Safari” (or your favorite browser) to open the website.
